Mortgage AI buyer’s guide

Make mortgage AI prove the next step.

A good assistant should do useful work inside your team’s workflow. Use this checklist to compare tools, ask better demo questions, and measure a pilot without confusing activity with results.

Start with the job, not the category name

“Mortgage AI” can mean lead follow-up, voice qualification, document processing, underwriting support, or servicing. First define the job you are buying: for example, continue borrower text conversations in Bonzo and coordinate a consultation with the right officer.

Then list must-have channels, systems, ownership rules, contact restrictions, and outputs. A large feature list is not a substitute for an assistant that reliably completes your particular handoff.

Six things the demo should show

History-aware conversation

Use a returning lead with a changed timeline. See whether the assistant uses existing facts without treating guesses as CRM data.

Human control

Have an officer reply, pause the lead, or change a stage. Verify whether automation stops or adapts as intended.

A confirmed appointment

Follow the result to the stored booking and assigned officer. Check the date, time zone, and notice destination.

An appropriate escalation

Ask a question that needs a licensed officer or unavailable information. The assistant should not invent an answer to keep talking.

An exception

Test missing history, a failed provider action, or a contact restriction. Look for a visible outcome and an appropriate next step.

A complete price

Ask for plan, volume, setup, support, messaging, telephony, taxes, and relevant exclusions in writing.

Keep the result definitions consistent

Keep the result definitions consistent
MetricDefinition to agree before testing
Eligible leadA contact allowed to participate under the same ownership and contact rules.
Useful conversationA conversation that establishes a relevant goal, next step, or need for human help.
Confirmed appointmentA stored booking with the required officer, date, time, and time zone—not merely a positive reply.
Attended consultationA consultation that actually took place, measured separately from booking.
Complete costPlatform and required third-party charges for the same measurement period.

Compare economics without promising funded loans

Cost per confirmed qualified appointment equals complete evaluation cost divided by appointments meeting your agreed definition. Cost per useful conversation uses the same cost divided by useful conversations. If there are no qualifying outcomes, report that explicitly rather than presenting a misleading cost of zero.

For a business-case estimate, distinguish assumptions from observed outcomes. Hours saved, attendance, applications, and funded loans are separate measurements. A booking is not a funded loan, and a successful synthetic demo is not proof of a production conversion rate.

Run a controlled pilot before expanding

  1. Try synthetic scenarios first

Use fictional data to verify basic behavior without exposing or contacting real borrowers.

  2. Agree on eligibility and stop conditions

Set scope, duration, contact rules, human coverage, success definitions, and the conditions that stop the pilot.

  3. Review the full trail

Inspect messages, delivery outcomes, CRM writes, bookings, notices, and exception handling.

  4. Expand only after review

Use observed results and remaining limitations to choose the next stage of rollout.

Questions before you choose

Mortgage AI buyer’s guide: common questions.

What is the best mortgage AI for a team already using Bonzo?
Start with tools that can demonstrate your exact Bonzo workflow: available history, assigned officers, stage permissions, delivery, and appointment write-back. LoanWick is one option; test its fit rather than relying on a universal ranking.
Should I measure mortgage AI by replies, appointments, or funded loans?
Measure each separately. Replies indicate engagement, confirmed appointments show a completed next step, and funded loans are a later business outcome with additional contributing factors.
What should a mortgage AI demo prove before I pay?
It should demonstrate your required conversation, human controls, confirmed handoff, failure behavior, and complete commercial terms using realistic synthetic scenarios.
Is this an independent software ranking?
No. This guide is published by LoanWick. It offers an evaluation framework, not an independent award or a claim that one tool is best for every lender.
Does a mortgage AI assistant replace a loan officer?
It can support follow-up and coordination. Licensed advice, lending decisions, and responsibilities still belong with the appropriate people and systems.

Test the conversation before you activate outreach.
